The Foot Fist Way (Just For The Hell of It)

If you've ever been inside of any kind of martial arts school or a lot of gyms, then this movie is for you. Something about that community of guys that tends to bring out the worst in some people. Maybe, it's the testosterone, male insecurities or lots of sweat. In real life that can be annoying to be around. It gets old fast. In The Foot Fist Way it's exactly that type of tough guy meat head mentality that makes this movie one of the best dark comedies I've ever seen.
Danny McBride plays Fred Simmons, fourth degree black belt and head of a Taekwondo school in North Carolina. He is the most inept instructor of karate. He's selfish, arrogant and when we first meet him, he's oblivious to anything outside of his school. Fred also may have taken a few too many kicks to the head because it becomes obvious that he's not all there. He likes to wear his karate uniform in public.

After discovering that his wife's cheating on him at work Fred snaps and throws himself into his TKD lifestyle. But, his life in the real world falls apart around him. Even after a few misadventures with his students and a lot of misfortune on his own, Fred stays Fred. The movie is very funny. The jokes are almost nonstop. The sight gags involve a lot of kicking.

McBride does a great job in the lead. His circle of students are all good straight men. The director steals a few scenes as an intense student. The movies definitely worth checking. The commentary on the dvd is an extra that's worth listening, too.
