The 25th annual Independent Spirit Awards weren't surprising in the least, but they give movies that don't have much of a chance in the Oscar race to get the accolades they deserve. Here are this year's winners:

Best Supporting Male

Best Supporting Female

  • Mo'Nique, Precious

Best Cinematography

  • Roger Deakins, A Serious Man

Best Foreign Film

  • An Education

Best Documentary

  • Anvil! The Story of Anvil

John Cassavetes Award (best feature made under $500,000)

  • Humpday

Robert Altman Award (best use of an acting ensemble)
